Indiana Health Centers Only You Can Prevent the Flu Campaign Urges Hoosiers to Get Vaccinated and Prevent Flu

IHC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Addison Haynes got his flu shot on camera to raise awareness of flu vaccines

INDIANAPOLIS – With flu season ramping up across Indiana, Indiana Health Centers is launching a new campaign to raise flu vaccine awareness among Hoosiers and make it easy to get vaccinated close to home. IHC clinics in more than 11 communities across Indiana are offering flu shots this October, and IHC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Addison Haynes, got his on camera to show how quick and easy it is.

In the video, Dr. Haynes walks through the steps IHC teams take to keep patients healthy, from handwashing and room cleaning to managing complex conditions. He then shares the easiest thing anyone can do to protect the people around them.

“One of the simplest and most effective things we can do to keep our patients safe is to get our flu shot,” said Dr. Haynes. “Getting vaccinated protects you, your family, your coworkers, and the patients who trust us with their care.”

The video was created to encourage IHC staff and patients to get vaccinated so they can help keep our communities safe and healthy. Patients and staff who get their flu shot at IHC will receive a campaign sticker to show that they are helping protect themselves and their loved ones this flu season. In addition to the PSA-style video, Dr. Haynes also debunked common myths and misconceptions around the flu-vaccine in a series of Q&A style videos IHC will share with patients and staff.

Flu shots protect more than the person receiving them. In many of the communities IHC serves, families live far from larger hospitals and rely on their local health center as their main source of care. Keeping the flu out of a household, a workplace, or a waiting room helps everyone in town, especially babies, older adults, and people managing chronic conditions.

IHC offers flu vaccines at all of our clinic locations and pharmacies. Patients can walk in, call to schedule an appointment at 317-576-1335, or book an appointment online at indianahealthonline.org.
